Show Us Your Haus! Home Décor DIY Projects from Artist Amy Griffith

Kick-starting our “Show Us Your Haus” series, Glory Haus artist Amy Griffith walked us through her home and shared some of her favorite DIY projects. As a mother of five, Amy understands the need for inexpensive décor that’s still meaningful and personalized. Check out these three simple projects:

1. Chalkboards: Amy covered an old mirror with chalkboard paint in her entryway and loves being able to write a message for holidays and hosting events at her home. She also used chalkboard paint to create a large family calendar to better organize her family member’s daily activities, and also used chalkboard contact paper on the fridge for grocery and to-do lists.

2. Drop Cloth Drapes: Amy created inexpensive, neutral-colored drapes for her home using drop cloths. Simply cut the drop cloths in half and hem the inside edges to create a drape. To create a striped design on the drapes like Amy did, place tape along the drapes using the width measurement you’d like the stripes to be. Then paint the strapes with latex paint. Amy was able to cover all the windows in her living room for only $20.00!

3. Photo Canvases: Amy loves this DIY project because she gets to display her favorite photos of her kids on beautiful canvases for less than $4.00 per frame. She brought the photos to a local office supply store and had them printed on engineer paper. After covering a canvas with spray adhesive, she carefully placed the photo on top of the canvas, and smoothed it out to remove bubbles. Lastly, she ran a sealer over the whole canvas to add a polished touch. These beautiful canvases hang in her main entryway stairwell!
