It's Fourth Quarter, and we're all looking for a way to increase sales. One of the most important days during this quarter is Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. We are looking for a way to capitalize on this one shot at obtaining a larger portion of the gift giving dollar. Retailers every where are designing a strategy to make the most of this opportunity.

If you haven't made a plan yet, it's not too late. We wanted to offer a few ideas we've heard from some of our retailers.

1- One Glory Haus retailer is offering a free Christmas Tote (you can see it pictured above) for every $150 purchase of Christmas ornaments on that day.

2- Another is offering on the spot personalization of ornaments for this day only. Any other day, they must purchase the item and return to the store to pick up the finished product. If you use this idea, remember to have the customer write on a piece of paper what they want written on their ornament. (This helps to cut down on miscommunication.)

3- Yet another idea, comes from a Glory Haus retailer, who adds value for her customers by offering Free Gift Wrap on this day for any gift purchase. For an ornament, that would mean placing Christmas colored crinkled paper in the bottom of a clear cello bag to cushion the ornament, and then tying it with complementing ribbon.

As you can see, it does not have to be an extravagant production to offer a little incentive for a customer to choose your store over another. But you do have to have a plan and you have to make sure your customers (and potential customers) are aware of what they'll be missing if they don't show up in your store on Black Friday. Your Face Book Page, Word of Mouth, and Signage are all great ways to communicate quickly & effectively on why people should visit you on Black Friday.

Feel free to use one of the ideas we shared (that's why we do it.), or leave a comment with your idea of how to increase sales. Retailers everywhere will appreciate it!

Molly dropped into this charming little store in San Marcos, Texas with her family.

It was love at first sight! She immediately was drawn to the cool merchandise!!
Turns out that this wonderful store didn't just serve up homemade hamburgers, they also had a a nice little gift shop.

The whole family had a wonderful lunch in this delicious hamburger joint. Before lunch was over, The Holm Boys spotted Glory Haus!!! What a perfect combination- Center Point Station and Glory Haus!!! If you have never stopped at this road shop on your way from Austin to San Antonio, do not drive by it again without stopping!!!! It is awesome!!!!

Glory Haus - Family is so Important!

Four Generations shopping at Canton, Texas

In the picture above we see Molly, Glory Haus Owner & President, with her youngest son Luke, her mom, Sondra Carlton, and her Grandmother, Joyce Tally. Four generations working side by side, to make sure Glory Haus has all the props needed to set up our space in the Cliff Price Showroom for the Summer Mart (June 22nd to June 28th).

With the help of Bat (gentleman pictured above), a retired fireman, they were able load all their goodies onto their truck. You see these purchases were all made with our expanded showroom space in mind, so they needed to be secure enough to make the trip from Canton to Dallas. Fortunately, Bat knew exactly how to pack it all in and tied it with just the right knots to secure the day's treasures.

Working at Glory Haus is lots of fun! Oh, we work hard following Colossians 3:23's direction, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." However, I can also tell you that this philosophy applies to whatever we are doing, including our day of ladies team building.

Having recently received our Glory Haus shopping bags into our warehouse, Molly decided everyone would need one for all the treasures she was sure we would find, and she was right! No one walked away empty handed from this day of team building. Let me just tell you that it beats a ropes course any day!

Christmas is a glorious time of celebration! If you're a retailer, Christmas is also a time filled with lots of planning and even more hard work. Of course the planning begins way before December. It is not uncommon for retailers to place their orders for Christmas items in January, when they've just finished up the Christmas buying season and have their finger on the pulse of what their customers want.

As I worked with customers at the marts over the last month, it was easy to see that retailers are hopeful about this Christmas season; however, there is a struggle to know if they've picked the right items in the correct price range. To miss either, could result in sales that are a little flatter than they desired. Many retailers brought their January orders and just like Santa checked their lists twice to make sure that everything is right.

I love the Lake!

While I would love to be on the Lake all the time, that doesn't always work. However, with these fabulous Glory Haus frames, I can display my memories from the lake all over my house. They also make great gifts for my friends, who share lake memories with me. Of course, all of the Glory Haus Lake products (boards, frames, hook board and tile) are a great addition to any lake home. The Lake Hook board is a great place to hang all the towels to dry after a full day on the lake. The best part is that all of these items are fun to use in your decor!

How to Make Your own Glory Haus Pallet Display

Seasons in Oklahoma

Rodney & Wendy from Seasons in Marlow, Oklahoma, made their own Glory Haus Pallet Display; and you can too.

Here are the instructions to get you started.

1) You need to find 2 pallets. 42 inch pallets work nicely.

2) Using a 2x4 for support, attach your two pallets together.

3) Lay the pallets on the floor & mark where you want to put your shelving.

4) Measure to determine the amount of wood you will need to create your shelving. We recommend that you use boards that are about 9.5 to 10 inches wide and at least 1 inch thick. This will give you the depth necessary to stack product on the shelves.

5) After you have purchased the wood for shelving, you will want to make the pallets & the shelves look a little more rustic. This can be accomplished by applying gray deck stain that is mixed with water 50-50.

6) Once your paint is dry, you're ready to get your power tools, so you can make the shelves. Be sure to notch the side of the shelves with your jig saw, so that they slide back onto the pallet. This enables you to be able to brace the shelving from the back of the pallet. We also recommend that you secure shelves with long screws from the side of the pallet when able.

7) Then using "L" brackets brace the shelves on the underneath side. One side of the "L" goes on the shelf, while the other goes on the pallet. For shelves longer than 3 feet, remember to brace the middle and not just the ends.

8) To hang items you have a couple of options:

a. You may choose to use landscape nails driven straight into the pallet. If you go with this option, please use a screw in hook to help stabilize it. You make this happen by placing the landscape nail under a shelf, so you can screw the hook in the shelf about two thirds back and let the nail rest in the hook. The placement of the hook should allow for the placement of product on the nail and provide stability at the same time.

b. Your second option is to use screw in hooks under the shelving. Be careful not to overweight these hooks.

c. The final option we've discovered is to use nails to create hangers in different places on the pallet.

9) Now you are ready to attach your pallet to the wall. Be sure to use dry wall screws & drive them into a stud, so it does not pull out of the wall.

10) If you want the pallet to be standing in the middle of the room, you can make two pallet displays & stand them back to back. Then you need to secure it to the ceiling using chain that is certified to hold the weight of the display. We recommend black chain, so that it is less noticeable.

Good Luck with your Pallet Display! Remember to stock it out with Glory Haus inventory.

Beautiful Display Table

Raspberry Row's Spool Table

If you were able to drop by our showroom in Atlanta, you may have noticed that our center piece table was a reclaimed cable spool. You know, one of those spools that they coil telephone or cable wires around. What did it cost? Nothing! After rescuing the spool from the side of the road, we brought it to our warehouse, where it was coated with gray deck stain. After that our artist, Laura Kirkland, added flair by painting a decorative edge all the way around the top. Many of you asked us about the table and have set out to make your own.

Pictured above is one of those table. Krista at Raspberry Row in Dalton, Georgia promptly found a cable spool to create her own table. If you look closely on the top of the spool, you can see that Krista has painted copies of some of her & Pat's favorite Glory Haus products.

She completed the look and optimized her display space by adding height with the slender trees used as poles. Yes, these are real trees! They are secured to the top of the table with L-brackets. These trees support a decorative metal piece on the top that is used to suspend additional product. Now, they have a great display piece!

1) The pallet has been converted to use as shelving on the wall.
The puff stars are hanging on it.
2) The Old door is to the left of the tree. It makes a great backdrop for boards, canvases, and
on the other side there's a wreath on the door displaying ornaments.
3)The tomato cage is to the left of the door. It has been turned upside down and hot glued to
the topiary pot. In this position, it really showed off our Christmas ornaments.

What to Order for Christmas 2009?

If you are a retailer who offers personalization or monogramming at your store, we'd like to pass along a few ideas that other customers have proven to be effective. One is the "Deck the Halls" ornament (item 21030) pictured at the top. The wreath on the back of this ball is perfect for an initial or to write the year. Other classic ornaments that are great for personalizing are the "Merry Christmas" ball (item 21027) and the "Holy Night" ball (item 21026). Both of these ornaments have eye catching design on one side, but they are blank on the other.
If you've never personalized ornaments before, we want to encourage you to give it a try. It's much simpler than most folks think. All you need is a pebo pen that you can purchase at your local craft store usually for $5 or less. The directions are on the pen.

It's great to see all the new products everyone has displayed. The orders are great - they are what keep the wheels of business churning. However, I think the very best thing about Marts must be PEOPLE. All of us at Glory Haus enjoyed all of the wonderful folks we met at the Atlanta Mart last week. Your comments warmed our hearts and encouraged us in our endeavor!

Jason Winkle has been helping us in the Glory Haus warehouse since our containers arrived.
He has been an incredible blessing for all of us at Glory Haus!

Jason & his family have a heart for Asia. They will be leaving soon to follow the call of their heart. We will miss you dearly at Glory Haus!

In an effort to bless him & his family, we will be having a fund raiser at the Glory Haus warehouse on Dec 5th & Dec 6th. Kim Kramer at Stonebridge Church (The Winkles' home church) is coordinating this effort. Individuals are signing up to be a part of a three person team that will attach beaded wires to Glory Haus products.
The shifts run from 9-Noon and from Noon to 3 pm.

If you would like to be a part of this community effort to bless the Winkles in their ministry, please call Kim Kramer at 404-512-8119. She will be happy to give you more information. We hope to see you there!

Kimberly's expression pretty well says it all!

We're having tons of fun as we unpack the product, only to pick and pack it for the retail stores. The reports we're hearing from our retail friends are fabulous! It has been a little bit crazy learning to do so many new things, but this time has been filled with so many blessings.

Who would have ever imagined that all of our friends would come out of the wood works to help us finish beads & wires, pick & pack product, and even bring us tea. If you've been by the warehouse, then you know what a tremendous community outpouring we have experienced. Thank you to everyone who has helped us walk through this first shipment! The camaraderie has blessed us - heart & soul. We hope it has blessed ya'll as well.

The Containers are Arriving!!!

After months of waiting the first crate has finally arrived. All of us at Glory Haus were so excited to unload, inventory and unpack the boxes. And there were plenty of boxes - more than any of us had ever seen or imagined.

Now the real fun begins! For the next week we'll be packing and shipping orders. So if you've been waiting you can expect your shipment to come soon. We hope you'll be just as excited to unpack your boxes as we were, and we're sure your customers will be thrilled to see all the Glory Haus frames, canvases, ornaments, boards and pottery in your store.

We officially started selling our products at the July 2008 Americas Mart in Atlanta. The response was overwhelming! Thanks to all our customers who made it a huge success.

We will start shipping all our products October 15th.
